You have 5 lives by default. Each time you lose a level, you will lose a life. A new life will be replenished every 15 minutes. You can see how many lives you have and how much time you have left until one is refilled in the top left corner of the screen.
Sometimes you can win unlimited lives for a certain amount of time, and this is very helpful for beating hard levels.
